Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 30

Born of the Holy Spirit

John 3:8

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I love to hear the wind whistling through the trees, especially in Winter. The fir and spruce are especially enchanting to me. Hearing the sound and watching the branches moving back and forth, brings to mind something Jesus said to a very prominent Jewish leader. He was speaking about the work of the Holy Spirit in John 3:8 when he said: “The wind blows where it will, and you hear the sound of it, but you can’t tell where it comes from and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” My friend, if you are born of God’s spirit, let Him lead you where He will.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 29

God Shows Himself Through Us

2 Chronicles 16:9

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

“The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9). God wants to show who He is to this and every generation. He does this through people just like He used people to put His Word into writing. He uses ordinary people like you and me.

The requirement for God showing Himself strong through us is to have a heart that seeks after him. “Perfect” in this verse means complete, whole, friendly toward God, made ready. My prayer is that your heart is wholly given to God and made ready for Him to show Himself strong through you.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 28

Peace through Christ

John 14:27

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Have you ever wondered, with so many people talking about peace and desiring peace, why is there so little peace in the world? I mean, here we are in the modern world – there have been wars throughout history, why haven’t we gotten beyond the fighting thing? Even in families there’s still fighting and fussing.

Listen to what Jesus said in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Peace with God through Jesus Christ gives us calm assurance in any situation, friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 27

Purpose of Life

Micah 6:8

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

People everywhere, of all ages and in all walks of life, want to know their purpose. There was even a popular book on the subject. People wrestle with issues such as freedom, morality, and the law, and the so-called “Golden Rule.” Do you struggle with these matters?

The prophet Micah, writing over 2,500 years ago, addressed the matter with these words: “He has shown you, O man, what is good and what does the lord require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). May you be just, merciful, and humble before God today, friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 26

Jesus’ Resurrection

John 3:16

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

The single most important event in all of human history may well prove to be the death, burial, and resurrection of the man from Nazareth, Israel. On a dark and cruel Roman cross, the creator of humankind paid for our salvation with His own blood. It was the ultimate display of God’s love the world will ever know. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Do you believe that?

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 25

You are His

Psalm 24:1

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

“The Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1). You realize, of course, that means you, too, are the Lord’s. You belong to him. You may be surrendered to him, and know him personally and intimately. You are His and He is yours. You may merely have an intellectual awareness of Him, but no personal relationship. You are His as well. You may not believe in Him, reject his son Jesus Christ, and even detest Christians – still, you are His. My recommendation is to seek to find out who He really is – it may surprise and delight you, my friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 24

God’s Covenant

Genesis 17:7

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

While taking a walk, I noticed a spot of color on the side of the road. There, among the dirt and brown leaves, was a dandelion in the middle of February. It reminded me of the tenacity of God’s people in the midst of severe hardship. In communist Russia and China, the body of Christ not only survived – it grew! The Jews, enduring one extreme hardship after another, have continued these past 2,000 years.

God’s covenant stands firm. In Genesis 17:7, God said to Abraham “And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto you, and to your seed after you.” And Jesus said He will be with us always – even to the end of the world. Amen.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 23

Life’s Rainstorms

Philippians 4:11

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I love fishing. Catching fresh food is great, and I love the beauty and variety God has created. Even if I’m not catching, it’s exhilarating just being out there. I love fishing; but I hate being chewed up by bugs. Gnats in the Adirondacks; no-see-ums in Florida, and mosquitoes everywhere! Well, into everyone’s life some rain must fall.

That’s not scripture, but here’s what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:11: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” So, rather than complain about the bugs, I rejoice in being able to fish and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 22

God is All We Need

Hebrews 13:5

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

How many times have you been disappointed by someone or something? Maybe a plan you had didn’t work out. A thing you thought would last a long time suddenly broke. Someone you trusted let you down. Life is filled with disappointments. That’s why we ought not hold onto this world too tightly, or love it too dearly.

Paul mentioned in Hebrews 13:5, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have; for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” In other words, God is all we need to make things right.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 21

Professing Christ versus Possessing Christ

Matthew 7:16

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Do you know it’s possible to profess Christ, but not possess Christ? In other words, there are many people who talk about Jesus, or even say they are Christians, but they don’t live out what Jesus taught. Folks who claim to be Christian ought to at least live out what Jesus taught us.

To do that involves not only knowing about Jesus and his teachings, but actually have him inside, animating the Christian. Possessing Christ is totally different than a mere profession. It’s a lifestyle born out of a relationship. Jesus said “Ye shall know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:16).
