Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 80

Childlike Faith

Matthew 19:14

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I’m not sure why, but children and dogs seem to be attracted to me. Dogs are social creatures who love attention and affection. Children are similar. Me too! I like attention and affection. And children and dogs can sense it. Of course, my ultimate goal with children is to introduce them to Jesus, my best friend. When Jesus walked around Israel, crowds followed him. I bet many of those were children. The adults were a little upset about it, but Jesus said, “Let the children, and forbid them not, to come unto me. For of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14. Childlike faith pleases God, my friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 79

Mourning

Psalm 38

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

The mourning dove is named for the mournful sound it makes. Rather than a happy tweet or song, it seems to be mourning. The doves in the western part of the United States seem to have even more desperation in the intensity of their call.

Some people are like that. They seem to be constantly mournful in life. That sort of mourning comes from deep pain or sorrow. Psalm 38:6 says: “I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.” But the Psalmist knew where to turn when in verse 15 he says, “For in you, O Lord, do I hope; you will hear, O Lord my God!” When you find yourself mourning, turn to the Lord, who can turn mourning into dancing and rejoicing, my friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 78

God is My Refuge

Psalm 61:3-4

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Crescendo and decrescendo are musical terms. They mean “to increase or decrease the loudness of the music being played.” Life is like that. Sometimes the volume of life’s activity gets pretty loud; and at other times, it quits down and mellows own. What do you do when life crescendos to a deafening level of craziness? I look for a quiet place apart, where I can let my brain drain. Often, I seek refuge in my Lord, who is my resting place. “For you have been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in your tabernacle forever. I will trust in the culvert of your wings.” Psalm 61:3-4.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 77

A Good Name

Proverbs 22:1, Psalm 45:17

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

As a young believer in Jesus Christ, one of the first scriptures that spoke to me was Proverbs 22:1. “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches; and loving favor, rather than silver and gold.” What does it mean to have a good name? Does it involve being wealthy and prosperous? Famous? Powerful? Actually, having a good name comes from being a person of integrity – one who upholds the truth and does good to others. All of these qualities are found in Jesus Christ. That’s why the writer of Psalm 45:17 said, “I will make your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore, shall the people praise you forever and ever.”

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 76

When Life Ends

Hebrews 9:27

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

While worshipping the Lord on the banks of the White River near Mount Rainier, Washington, I considered the direction of the flow. Always moving in one direction. God has designed time that way, too. Always, the rivers of time flow in one direction. Eventually, the bluish-white waters of the White River will find themselves in the Pacific Ocean.

When you arrive at the confluence of life and eternity, where will you find yourself?

Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed unto men once to die; but after this, the judgement.”

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 75

Pray Like This

Matthew 6:9

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

As Debbie and I do events around America to expose people to Jesus’ love, we find that the Lord moves most powerfully where his people fervently pray. God has chosen prayer as the means for us to move His heart.

Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them to pray. It’s not recorded in scripture where they asked him to evangelize, build churches, learn to interpret scripture; but rather, to pray. Matthew 6:9 records this: “Jesus said, “After this manner, therefore pray: ‘Our father in Heaven, hallowed be your name.’” What he meant was, “Pray like this.”

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 74

Hard Times

Psalm 30:4-5

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Even in the best of circumstances, there is often some displeasure. Know what I mean? It’s like the old adage, “Into everyone’s life some rain must fall.” Sometimes, it’s a little sprinkle, but other times, it’s a downpour. Hold on friend: there is a silver lining in that dark rain cloud.

In Psalm 30, verses 4 and 5, we find this: “Sing unto the Lord, you saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endures but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 73

Clean Heart

Psalm 51

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

One of my favorite praise songs is “Create In Me a Clean Heart.” It’s from Psalm 51, verse 10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Verse 13 says “Then will I teach transgressors your ways, and sinners shall be converted unto you.”

As we allow God to cleanse our hearts, and give the Holy Spirit free reign to renew our spirit, people will see it, and we can be used by God to affect new life in them, too. May your life be a great testimony my friend, both today, and always.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 72

Living by Faith

Romans 1:17

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Ever hear the song that goes: “When you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you”? That’s because a smile is contagious. According to the apostle Paul, that’s the way God’s righteousness is often seen. As he writes in Romans 1:17, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”

As others see you living by faith, they will know that God is taking care of you. God proves His existence as you live by the faith He gives you. Live it, brother and sister, live it!

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 71

Praising Him

Psalm 148

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Have you ever noticed, as the dark gives way to morning light, a symphony of sound? One or two birds begin to waken; then a multitude of birds, all rejoicing in the light. God must’ve made the songbirds to delight His heart, and ours.

Psalm 148 begins, “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the Heavens; praise Him in the heights. Praise Him all his angels, praise Him, all His hosts. Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all you stars of light.” And in verse 10, others are called to praise Him: “Beasts and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl.” In other words, let all His works praise Him!
