Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 130

Peace, Love, Dove

Revelation 18:4

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

In the 1960’s, a mighty move of the Holy Spirit swept over America, impacting the youth especially. Many young people were seeking the truth. The spirit of God called out of people for the Lord, people who were willing to turn from their sin and follow Jesus, no matter the cost. The phrase ‘peace, love, dove’ came out of that move. Now, in the 21st century, as it seems wickedness and deception, confusion and brutality are on the rise, there are many people seeking the truth – and, there is a mighty move of the spirit of God, not relegated only to the young. Revelation 18:4 says this: “Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins.” Come to Jesus.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 125

Peace

Psalm 34:14

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I have an idea for you today that could revolutionize the world. It’s actually been tried before, but, being human, it’s difficult. Often we forget, even though we may know about it. Listen to Psalm 34:14: “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.” Seek peace. In the midst of a struggle, if we could actually seek peace instead of allowing ourselves the right to pursue revenge, or even to get our own way. Seeking peace takes determination, but if we seek peace, look for ways to make it happen, and even pursue it until we obtain it, man, what a different world this would be, yes?

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 105

Bigotry

1 Samuel 16:7

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I heard a preacher once say that God is color-blind. Nice sentiment, but not true. In fact, God is an amazing artist who built color into His creation. Sadly, because we are fallen people living in a sin-drenched world, we use color to separate, even among people created by God, and in His image.

Bigotry and racial prejudice are simply indications of the sin problem that Jesus came to fix. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. looked for a day when people would be judged by character, rather than skin color. “The Lord said to Samuel… man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Being born again allows us to see God’s creation, as God’s people, through God’s eyes.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 95

Hedonism

James 4

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Man, there sure is a lot of unrest and tension in our world. At the same time, it seems like folks are all about feeding their desires with all the goodies in life, including, well, you know. James’ letter speaks to this. Chapter 4 begins: “Where do wars, and fightings come from among you? From your lusts, that war in your members.”

The original Greek word for ‘lust’ is where the word ‘hedonism’ comes from. It speaks of personal pleasure being the goal in life. That describes our society well, doesn’t it? The disciple’s life is one of disciplining ourselves, rather than gorging on stuff. Let’s be disciples of Jesus Christ, brothers and sisters.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 93

Fallen World

1 Peter 5:7

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

I’m not going to tell you something you don’t already know, and it’s this: we live in a fallen world. True. As a result, bad things happen. In fact, bad things happen to good people. The cat gets hit by a car; you slip on the ice and sprain your ankle; your favorite relative dies unexpectedly; and so on it goes.

Well, God never promises us a rose garden. In 1 Peter 5:7, the apostle tells us to “cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” Got trouble? Turn it all over to God, and let Him help you with it. You have problems; Jesus has answers.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 44

Giving our Hearts to Jesus

Ephesians 1:13-14

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

A line in one of my songs goes like this: “When you give your heart to Jesus, the spirit of the Lord will fill you.” What does it mean to give your heart to Jesus? The apostle Paul writing to the Ephesians in 1:13-14 says: “In whom you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that you believed, you were sealed by that holy Spirit of promise, which is the downpayment of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

If you have heard the Gospel, and have given your life to Jesus, my friend, that means he paid for your sins with his own blood, and now lives inside you, helping you to please God. How wonderful is that?
