Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 10

Commit Your Way Unto God
Psalm 37:5

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

“Commit your way unto the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5). Doing everything well in life takes commitment, whether you’re an athlete, a musician, a banker, teacher, student, carpenter, cook, mother or father. You have to be committed to the task in order to do a good job.

We all hope for a good outcome in life, but many folks just expect things to come their way without effort or commitment. On the other hand, there are people who trust only in themselves, and wonder why things don’t work out so well. For excellent results, let me remind you to commit your way unto the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass. That’s a promise.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 9

God Holds the Future
1 Corinthians 2:9

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Can you, at this moment, see what’s going on a hundred miles from you? Do you know the details of what will take place in your life tomorrow? Of course not. We’re locked in to space and time.

But God does. In fact, he’s there waiting, while at the same time being with you now. We can do all the planning, hoping, and working toward the future we want, but we really don’t know what the future holds.

This is a timeless truth. About 2000 years ago, the apostle Paul quoted from Isaiah the prophet, who lived about 600 years before him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for him who love him.” It’s a good thing we know who holds the future, and your future is looking good!

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 8

Setting Aside Time for God
Nehemiah 8:10

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Everyday, I try to find at least one moment when I can focus on the Lord. It usually works best for me first thing in the day, before all the busyness begins. It’s not easy to do; and often, something will demand my attention. Doing it consistently takes determination. Being quiet before God, focusing on Jesus, helps set the tone for the rest of the day. It’s like when I tune my guitar before playing – it makes the song sound so much better. Perhaps that’s why Nehemiah 8:10 says: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

May you find your strength in the Lord as you make time for him each day. The joy of the Lord is your strength, my friend.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 7

Trusting God
Psalm 16

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

In what do you find comfort? Where does your joy come from? Is it really possible to rejoice always, in all circumstances?

Psalm 16 was written by a man in a dangerous, life-threatening situation. It begins: “Preserve me, O God, for in you do I put my trust.” God has proved to me over and over again through the years that trusting in him yields the best results. I know I can trust him – he’s proved himself to me. Psalm 16 ends with this: “You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 6

Jesus is the Word
John 1

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

“In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth.” (Genesis 1:1). “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1, 1 and 3)The Word became flesh; the Word had power to create. The Word was God.

Therein lies the distinction between Jesus Christ and all other gods, spiritual leaders, religious constructs and “-ism”s. It turns out that Jesus, the Word of God, is God. So when Jesus says “I am the way, the truth, and the life; No one comes to the Father but by me,” (John 14:6) he’s speaking truth from a position of ultimate authority and power. If you are in Christ, you have the assurance that all the promises God made concerning you are true.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 5

Friday, the Sixth Day
Genesis 1:27-28

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Who hasn’t heard the expression, “Thank God it’s Friday”? Some say it with a sigh of relief after a strenuous workweek. Others look forward to the coming weekend activities. I wonder if anyone thanks God for what he did on Friday. Do you realize that Friday is the sixth day? That means Saturday is the Sabbath rest, the seventh day. That also means Monday isn’t the first day of the week – Sunday is!

Listen to what God did on Friday, from Genesis 1:27-28: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them.” Since God created and blessed us on the sixth day, I say, thank God for Friday! How about you?

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 4

Exalting His Name
Psalm 34:1-3

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

Many organizations, products, sports teams, and such, have a catchy slogan or motto that defines them. I liked that idea so much I decided to find something people could remember me by. Psalm 34:3 is often placed under my signature, and my daughter even had verses 1-3 burned onto my guitar strap. It goes like this: “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”(Psalm 34:1-3).

I love it when we can exalt the name of the Lord together. So why don’t we do that just now? Praise you Lord for your goodness. We love you, Jesus!

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 3

Wise Leadership
Proverbs 1:1-6

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.” (Proverbs 1:1-6).

Wisdom, justice, judgement, and equity are exactly what we need in our leaders today. Would you take a moment to pray that God would grant us wise leadership, to guide us through these turbulent and uncertain times? And remember – pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 2

Planting God’s Word in our Hearts
Psalm 119:9-11

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute.

When my children were young, I would read the Bible to them each day. Often we would read through the Psalms or book of Proverbs during the month. I felt it was my responsibility to feed them on God’s word, so they would be wise.

In Psalm 119:9-11, we read: “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to your word. With my whole heart have I sought you: O let me not wander from your commandments.Your word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Planting God’s Word deep in our soul, feeding and meditating on it, aligns our thoughts with God’s. It also gives us truth to share with others. May God use you to speak his Word to folks you meet today, and to be an example of his amazing love.

Wisdom and Truth Minute: Day 1

Life’s Storms
Psalm 147:1, 16-17

Hi, I’m Howie Campbell, and this is a Wisdom and Truth Minute. “Praise the Lord; for it is good to sing praises unto our God. For it is pleasant and praise is comely” (Psalm 147:1).

Our recent snowstorm here in Virginia was a humdinger. While taking a break from shoveling, I took a walk. The nighttime sky was bright because the moon was full behind the clouds. The wind was blowing and the ice was beating on my face. My hair was covered with ice. And I thought of a scripture further down in Psalm 147. It goes like this: “He gives snow like wool: he scatters the hoarfrost like ashes. He casts forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?” (Psalm 147:16-17).

Friend, our lives are in God’s hands. So in all of life’s storms, trust God to see you through to that good place, and make you a blessing to somebody else.
